Glyndebourne Opera Festival: Káťa Kabanová

From August 3 to 23, 2025, Kněžíková returns to the elite Glyndebourne Festival in the title role of Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová. Directed by Damiano Michieletto and conducted by Robin Ticciati with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Glyndebourne Chorus, the production will be performed in Czech with English surtitles. Kněžíková first portrayed this role there in 2021.

The Guardian praised her portrayal:

“ Musically, it was superb. As Kát’a, young Czech soprano Katerina Knezikova is an unshowy, mellow-sounding heroine.“

The Times also heaped praise:

“Katerina Knezikova has just the right quality of unhinged, delusional naivety for Kat’a, or at least for this production’s Kat’a, and her pianissimo singing is particularly exquisite.”

Supporting roles include Nicky Spence as Boris, Susan Bickley as Kabanicha, John Tomlinson as Dikoj, and Czech tenor Jaroslav Březina as Tichon.

Reflecting on 2021, Kněžíková says:

“In 2021, many COVID restrictions were still in place, including distancing even on stage. I’m glad that now we can fully engage both vocally and physically on stage, delivering everything at one hundred percent. So in many ways it will be a completely new experience. The Glyndebourne Festival is highly distinctive in how people enjoy opera here. It starts early afternoon, there’s a long picnic interval, everyone is beautifully dressed, in a positive mood and yet focused. From an opera-world perspective, it’s a true cherry on the cake for artists and audiences alike.”
